Programs & key activities

Comprehensive programs in education, performance and preservation

Our activities run through the school year and continue with festivals and fieldwork in the summer. Everything listed here is delivered on a non-profit basis for public benefit.

Traditional Music & Vocal Education Workshops

Providing structured group and individual lessons in traditional folk singing, vocal ornamentation, and historical instrument training (e.g. gusli, balalaika, accordion and percussion).

  • Weekly group sessions for beginners, with individual tuition for advanced students.
  • Repertoire taught by ear and from archival transcriptions, in its original language and dialect.
  • Instruments provided for students who do not own one.

Youth Cultural Heritage & Arts Initiatives

Hosting free or subsidised music sessions and interactive heritage days for school children and youth to encourage engagement with living cultural history.

  • Visits to schools and community centres in Šiauliai municipality.
  • Hands-on instrument demonstrations and singing games suited to different ages.
  • No participation fee where funding allows; reduced fees otherwise, on request.

Community Concerts & Intercultural Festivals

Organizing seasonal public performances, traditional music festivals, and collaborative cross-cultural concerts in the Šiauliai municipality and across Lithuania.

  • Student and ensemble concerts at the close of each teaching season.
  • Joint programmes with Lithuanian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Polish and Russian tradition bearers.
  • Open, family-friendly events with free or donation-based entry.

Ethnomusicological Archiving & Preservation

Collecting, documenting, and archiving regional folk songs, oral traditions and traditional musical arrangements to ensure their preservation for future researchers and educators.

  • Field recordings and interviews with singers and instrumentalists, with informed consent.
  • Transcription and cataloguing of melodies, texts and performance notes.
  • Materials shared with teachers, students and researchers on request.
